Safety
How Mira handles the hard moments.
Mira listens for distress and crisis language in what you write. That check happens on our server, before she answers — never on your phone, and never as something you have to trigger. Every message is scored into one of four tiers, numbered 0 through 3. Here is exactly what each one does.
The four tiers, 0 through 3
Tier 0 — nothing flagged
Most of a conversation lives here. Mira just talks with you the way she normally does.
Tier 1 — distress
Burnout, exhaustion, hopelessness, moral injury, numbness, or “I can’t do this anymore” about the job. Mira stays in the conversation and works with it. If several messages in a row carry that weight, she slows the pace down, offers something simple and grounding, and mentions the crisis lines are there — without treating you like an emergency.
Tier 2 — elevated
Passive thoughts of not being here, self-harm language without a plan, feeling others would be better off without you, leaning on substances to cope, or references to taking or diverting medication. Mira says what she heard out loud instead of stepping around it, asks about your safety plainly and only once, and a crisis banner appears with 988 and Crisis Text Line. You can dismiss the banner.
Tier 3 — acute
Intent, a plan, means, a timeline, an attempt in progress, or harm to a patient or another person. Mira stops the reflective conversation. She names what she heard, says plainly that this is beyond what she can hold, and hands off. A crisis panel stays on screen with tap-to-dial 988 and 911, and that thread stops taking new messages — with a line explaining why and a button to start fresh whenever you want.
Escalation means resources, not reporting
When Mira escalates, the only thing that happens is that she points you toward 988 and Crisis Text Line (text HOME to 741741). No one on our side is notified. No email goes out. No staff alert is created. There is no on-call person reading your words, because there is no one to read and nothing written down.
988 and Crisis Text Line are independent services. They have no connection to your employer, your manager, your health system, or your board of nursing.
What gets recorded
One anonymous tick that a safeguard fired, and which tier it reached — 0 through 3, the same numbering the classifier itself emits and the same numbering stored in our database — with a timestamp. That’s it. No name, no user id, no words, no excerpt, no keywords, nothing that could be traced back to you or to a conversation. It exists so we can tell the safeguards are still working.
If several distressing messages show up in one conversation, Mira notices that within that conversation only. The count lives in memory for the length of the thread and is never saved.
Mira is not clinical care
Mira does not chart, diagnose, treat, or contact anyone. She is a companion, not a clinician, and nothing here creates a medical record or a clinical relationship. If you need care, please reach a licensed clinician — and if you are in danger right now, call 988 or 911.
